Jobs in this family are responsible for the oversight, facilitation, and/or promotion of programs and services affecting agricultural or agribusiness industries in the state.

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Obtain, inspect, and test agricultural samples.
  • Perform inspections of grain storage areas and transportation conveyances.
  • Examine grain and other agricultural businesses’ licenses and records.
  • Conduct inventories and assessments of grain, livestock, and other agricultural products.

Positions allocated to this series may perform the duties described, or specialize in areas such as animal health, plant industries, weights and measures, grain inspection and warehousing, and/or market development or promotion. The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from testing samples to directing agricultural services and programs.

Jobs and Descriptions

Agriculture Market Specialist I

First-level professional position accountable for performing detailed examinations of grain and other agricultural businesses’ licenses and related records. Conducts physical inventories and assessments of grain, livestock, and other agricultural products to determine the type, quantity, quality and condition of the commodities. Duties may include market development or promotion and facilitation of programs. Employees at this level may be responsible for training staff.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree.

Agriculture Market Specialist II

Seasoned professional position accountable for performing regulatory, promotional, or assistive services affecting agricultural or agribusiness industries in the state. Duties may be in areas such as animal health, plant industries, weights and measures, and grain inspection and warehousing. Duties at this level may include market development or promotion, facilitation of programs, or grants management. Employees at this level may function as a lead worker and direct the work of lower-level positions.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience in agricultural programs.

Agriculture Market Specialist Team Leader

First-level supervisory position accountable for assisting in the planning, directing, and coordinating regulatory, promotional, or assistive services and programs affecting agricultural or agribusiness industries in the state. Duties may be in areas such as animal health, plant industries, weights and measures, grain inspection and warehousing, market development or promotion. Positions at this level are responsible for budget and grants management. Employee supervision includes hire decisions, training oversight, and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience in agricultural programs.

Agriculture Market Supervisor

Supervisory/managerial position accountable for directing the overall planning, directing, and coordinating regulatory, promotional or assistive services and programs affecting agricultural or agribusiness industries in the state. Positions at this level are responsible for budget and grants management. Duties may be in areas such as animal health, plant industries, weights and measures, grain inspection and warehousing, and market development or promotion. Employee supervision includes hire decisions; training oversight; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience in agricultural programs.
