Jobs in this family are responsible for veterinary work related to animal and public health.

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Perform inspections related to the treatment of animals.
  • Manage and coordinate programs relating to the care of animals.
  • Make diagnostic and epidemiological decisions and recommendations.
  • Direct and coordinate statewide epidemiological efforts.
  • Order quarantines, vaccinations, herd depopulation, or other measures.
  • Direct operations of an animal health laboratory and provide pathology services.

Jobs and Descriptions

Veterinarian

Veterinarian accountable for managing and coordinating a variety of programs for care of livestock or companion animals in the state. Work involves the in/career-catalog/agriculture/veterinarianspection of livestock markets, slaughter establishments, and poultry and animal care facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations. Makes diagnostic and epidemiological decisions and recommendations based upon analysis and interpretation of test results. Employees at this level may provide supervision or serve as an expert in a specific area.

Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and license to practice as a Veterinarian in Mississippi.
