Consumer Protection Specialist I

First level professional position in inspective and enforcement work in statewide agricultural products, weights and measures, livestock disease, and parasite-control. Incumbents are responsible for assisting in enforcing the rules and regulations. The work consists of assisting in investigating violations, securing information, maintaining reports, preparing and dealing with emergency management animal health issues, and assisting in prosecution and enforcement of quarantine regulations.

Typically requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 0-1 years of experience.

Consumer Protection Specialist II

Second-level professional position in inspective and enforcement work in statewide agricultural products, weights and measures, livestock disease, and parasite-control. Incumbents in this classification are responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the department in which employed. The work consists of investigating violations, securing information, maintaining reports, preparing and dealing with emergency management animal health issues, assisting in prosecution and enforcement of quarantine regulations.

Typically requires an Associate’s Degree; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.

Consumer Protection Specialist III

Seasoned professional position responsible for the enforcement of state and federal laws in animal health, plant industries, and weights and measures. Work at this level involves conducting a full range of investigations of alleged violations of statutes and regulations, Employees at this level issue citations and may implement enforcement activities and provide training or technical assistance to program staff. Employees may function as lead workers and provide direction to lower level staff.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4-6 years of experience.

Consumer Protection Team Leader

Consumer Safety, Protection, and Compliance supervisory position responsible for the coordination and implementation of the inspection and enforcement activities of a program. At this level, work involves overseeing investigations of alleged violations of statutes and regulations. Supervision at this level includes providing training, technical assistance and functional supervision to program staff involved in conducting field inspections, investigations and/or animal testing. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 4-6 years of experience; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8-10 years of experience.

Consumer Protection Supervisor

Consumer Safety, Protection, and Compliance managerial position responsible for the oversight and implementation of the inspection and enforcement activities of a program or a department. At this level, work involves advising state officials and the public and enforcing interstate and intrastate regulations and quarantines, especially during emergency periods. Supervision at this level includes providing training, technical assistance and functional supervision to program staff involved in conducting field inspections, investigations and animal testing. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8-10; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12-14 years of experience.
