Jobs in this family provide program support and technical assistance in the development and protection of the state’s economic and business interests. Positions develop and attract new businesses and investments to the state; and/or analyze financial feasibility of community and business development projects.
The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

Jobs and Descriptions
Economic Development Specialist I
First-level professional position accountable for promoting economic development activities in the state by: determining market needs and opportunities; collecting, analyzing, and presenting economic, demographic and social information to senior level professionals; and developing and presenting training and promotional seminars for local businesses, government, and community leaders. Employees at this level may assist higher level representatives in a specialty area.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience.

Economic Development Specialist II
Second-level professional involved in evaluating existing or potential economic projects in the state for financial feasibility of community and business development. Employees establish program standards for evaluating opportunities and make recommendations to management for approval decisions. At this level, employees oversee complex market research, develop complex market strategies, present to high level public and private officials, and have a strong knowledge of State, National and International policies, statutes, and practices.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years of experience.

Economic Development Specialist III
Seasoned third-level professional accountable for evaluating highly complex and sensitive projects with statewide, national, or international impact and providing technical assistance and guidance to other professional staff relating to work methods and establish new program procedures. Positions plan, coordinate and implement statewide, national, or international activities. Reviews, evaluates, and certifies applications from businesses, communities, and individuals.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience.

Economic Development Team Lead
Supervisory position accountable for functions related to economic, community, and business development in the State. Employees create new rules and policy to support the economic development goals of the State. Accountable for supervising the work of economic development professionals, having input into setting a budget, and responsible for staying within an assigned budget. Employee supervision includes hire decisions; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these jobs to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience.

Economic Development Supervisor
Managerial position accountable for administrative and management work directing, planning, analyzing, and coordinating community and economic development programs in the following areas: community development, business development, national and international marketing, workforce development, public housing, and tourism. Oversees statewide economic and business development programs and projects including defining scope of projects, developing project budgets, oversight of public relations and communications, supervision of professional staff, and program evaluation. Employee supervision includes hire decisions; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, 6+ years of related experience and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
