Attorney I

First-level Attorney responsible for assisting in the handling of legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state regulations, and state leases and contracts; and implementing state procedures. The work may include analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; representing the state or agencies in court; and performing legal research and preparing legal briefs. Positions at this level may work under the direction of a higher-level attorney.

Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association.

Attorney II

Second-level Attorney responsible for handling legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state regulations, and state leases and contracts; implementing state procedures; and may direct the work of legal support personnel. The work may include analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; representing the state or agencies in court or any tribunal; performing legal research and preparing legal briefs.

Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association.

Attorney III

Third-level Attorney responsible for handling more complex or sensitive legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state regulations, and state leases and contracts; implementing state procedures; and supervising legal support personnel. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; representing the state or agencies in court or any tribunal; and performing legal research and preparing legal briefs. May mentor lower-level attorneys.

Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association.

Attorney Supervisor

Senior-level Attorney responsible for handling complex or sensitive legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state regulations, and state leases and contracts; implementing state procedures; and supervising legal support personnel. The work may include analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; representing the state and/or agency in court or any tribunal; performing legal research and preparing legal briefs. Positions at this level may direct the work of lower-level attorneys or act as a lead worker or mentor.

Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association.
