Chaplain

Professional religious/spiritual work in providing spiritual ministry to employees, patients, or inmates of an institution or prison. Incumbents in this classification attend to the spiritual and moral educational needs of those seeking spiritual help, counsel individuals seeking guidance, or serve in any other capacity that will lend emphasis to the spiritual needs of those seeking such help.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, 0-3 years of experience, and ordained and endorsed by denomination.

Chaplain Team Lead

First level supervisory position responsible for the coordination of religious/spiritual work at a state institution. At this level and in addition to providing spiritual guidance to patients or inmates, employees also supervise lower level chaplains and volunteers, develop and plan programming, provide pastoral support, preach and teach, and coordinate programs.

Typically requires a Master’s Degree, 2-4 years of experience, and ordained and endorsed by denomination.

Chaplain Supervisor

Statewide Chaplain Director responsible for overseeing all chaplains in mental health institutions or state, regional, and private prisons. Accountable for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating programs and evaluating the effectiveness of these programs on a statewide basis. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline.

Typically requires a Master’s Degree, 7+ years of experience, and ordained and endorsed by denomination.
