Shooting Range

Jobs in this family are responsible for organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities at a state-run facility. An incumbent will provide orientations for all new shooters; enforce safety rules and regulations for the range; and ensure that the entire facility and all operations are maintained at the highest standards. The work requires proficiency with firearms, shooting ranges, and shooting range technology and equipment.

Shooting Range Officer

First level professional position responsible for assisting with the oversight of a shooting range. Incumbent checks guests into the facility and provides explanations and clarifications of safety rules and requirements. Monitors range activities to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and assists guests when necessary. Performs general maintenance on range equipment and maintains cleanliness of the facility.

Typically requires Graduation from high school or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.

Shooting Range Team Lead

First level supervisory position responsible for the management of a shooting range. Incumbent manages the daily range activities to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, communicates rules to range guests, and assists guests when necessary.  Provides range orientation for new range members.  Manages the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility, trains staff to perform duties associated with the shooting range, and directs staff in daily activities. May assist in monitoring the facilities budget.

Typically requires Graduation from high school or equivalent and 2-5 years of experience.

Shooting Range Supervisor

Top level management position responsible for the oversight of multiple shooting ranges. Incumbent sets range safety rules and regulations and, hires and trains management staff to perform all duties associated with shooting ranges. The incumbent exercises final authority in establishing objectives, standards, and control measures for shooting range programs that have a statewide impact. Incumbent is responsible for financial decisions, as well as monitoring the budgets for facilities.

Typically requires Graduation from high school or equivalent and 3-6 years of experience
