Transportation Planner I
First-level professional work in preparing data to be used in transportation planning studies. Employees collect, tabulate, and organize data into summary form for short-term and long-term projects coordinated by upper-level planners. Jobs at this level perform minor analyses of data for annual statewide reports on traffic count studies, truck weight studies, speed studies, vehicle occupancy studies, and automatic traffic map plotting. Employees may coordinate with inter- and intra-departmental stakeholders.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree.

Transportation Planner II
Second-level professional work in preparing a variety of short and long-term transportation planning studies. Employees research, analyze, and assimilate into report format data pertaining to specific functional areas within the transportation research field. Jobs at this level perform major analyses of data for annual statewide reports on traffic count studies, truck weight studies, speed studies, vehicle occupancy studies, and automatic traffic map plotting; develops design traffic data for designing highways. Employees may coordinate with inter- and intra-departmental stakeholders.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-5 years of experience.

Transportation Planner Supervisor
Supervisory-level position accountable for preparing interdisciplinary transportation studies and coordinating the work of a transportation analyses section. Employees design proposals for projects requiring intra and interdepartmental coordination, develop procedures for section operation, and assign planners to various projects based on priority, employee ability and area of expertise. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen. Employees may coordinate with inter- and intra-departmental stakeholders.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of relevant experience.
