Transportation Engineering Technician II
Second-level vocational position accountable for providing technical support to construction projects, traffic control and safety, research and development, roadway design, right of ways, testing, transportation planning and bridges. Jobs at this level conduct testing procedures, plan and implement special traffic count studies and speed delay studies, collect roadway use and investment data, and assist in the running of survey parties.
Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 2-4 years of experience.

Transportation Engineering Technician III
Third-level vocational position accountable for providing technical support to construction projects, traffic control and safety, research and development, roadway design, right of ways, testing, transportation planning and bridges. Jobs at this level inspect concrete plants and mix designs, inspect and supervise paving and bridge construction, and conduct tests on construction materials. Employees at this level may function as lead workers and direct the work of lower-level employees. May act as lead worker for less complex projects.

Transportation Engineering Technician IV
This is the advanced level in this vocational series. The primary focus of the role at this level is the performance of work at advanced technical level to support for professionals in disciplines such as Engineering, Water Resources and Surveying. Incumbents at this level perform work such as complex vocational level data gathering in such fields as meter reading, field measurements, traffic counts, designs etc. Perform complex vocational analysis and interpretation of data. Prepare and interpret plans. Participates in the preparation of reports to be used by professional and managerial employees. Prepares complex maps at a vocational level. Performs complex CAD production. Incumbents review permits for compliance. Performs customer interaction, which may be in the field or in an office setting, in the performance of duties. Maintains databases for record keeping purposes. Provides work direction to incumbents at lower levels and review/audit the work in this job family. May act as lead worker for more complex projects.

Transportation Engineering Technician Team Lead
First-level supervisory position accountable for overseeing technical support to construction projects, traffic control and safety, research and development, roadway design, right of ways, testing, transportation planning and bridges. Jobs at this level inspect concrete plants and mix designs, inspect and supervise paving and bridge construction, and conduct more complex tests on construction materials. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Transportation Engineering Technician Supervisor
Supervisory/Managerial position accountable for overseeing a section or subdivision of technical support to construction projects, traffic control and safety, research and development, roadway design, right of ways, testing, transportation planning and bridges. Jobs at this level schedule work load, train personnel, and supervise subordinate personnel; and prepare standard operating procedures manuals. Accountable for finalizing projects for clearance of materials; preparing and issuing testing engineer letter of materials and tests; and providing recommendations and advice to testing, district and project engineers, and other divisions.
Typically requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
