Revenue Technician I

First-level vocational revenue position accountable for processing routine tax accounting transactions, maintaining controls and balances on a variety of tax accounting activities, and the preparation of fiscal statements and reports from various sources. Jobs at this level review and process tax returns and vehicle titles to verify and correct coding inaccuracies; correct tax rates, deductions, and diversions to cities to ensure sale taxes are reflected; purchase materials, supplies, and equipment; perform entry level clerical accounting functions; assist taxpayers with tax concerns; and provide support as an administrative assistant to the administrative officer.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 0-2 years of experience.

Revenue Technician II

Second-level vocational revenue position accountable for reviewing and processing tax returns and vehicle titles to verify and correct coding inaccuracies; correcting tax rates, deductions, and diversions to cities to ensure sale taxes are reflected; purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment; performing entry level clerical accounting functions; and providing support as an administrative assistant to the administrative officer. Revenue Specialist I

First-level professional revenue position accountable for the serving of legal documents, the seizure and sale of real and personal property, and the proper processing of the monies collected so as to guarantee the taxpayer constitutional rights of due process of law. Jobs at this level are responsible for all business operations and individuals taxpayers located within an assigned territory.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 4 years of experience.

Revenue Specialist II

Second-level professional revenue position accountable for the serving of legal documents, the seizure and sale of real and personal property, and the proper processing of the monies collected so as to guarantee the taxpayer constitutional rights of due process of law. Employees at this level possess increased knowledge, abilities, and skills in applying the Mississippi tax statutes as they relate to business policies and procedures. Incumbents work independently requiring less guidance from management and provide supervision and technical guidance to lower classifications of revenue officers.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience.

Revenue Specialist III

Third-level seasoned professional revenue position accountable for the serving of legal documents, the seizure and sale of real and personal property, and the proper processing of the monies collected so as to guarantee the taxpayer constitutional rights of due process of law. Collection of delinquent taxes is a primary responsibility and is accomplished through the incumbents monitoring electronic data to determine those taxpayers who are delinquent and then making personal contact to collect those taxes.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-4 years of experience.

Revenue Specialist Team Lead

Supervisory revenue position accountable for supervising Revenue Officers to their territories to efficiently and effectively obtain taxpayer compliance with the state's tax statutes. Jobs at this level are responsible for monitoring statistical reports to evaluate revenue officer production, providing training to all levels of revenue officers, advising the bureau or office director of employee productivity, and/or determining areas of collection within a district which need a concentrated effort to reduce non-compliance.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years of experience.

Revenue Specialist Supervisor

Managerial revenue position accountable for formulating, directing, and controlling the operations of the office through bureaus, divisions, and branches staffed with highly specialized professional, technical, and clerical personnel. Jobs at this level exercise final authority in establishing objectives, standards, and control measures within the context of broad, general policy guidelines for large programs having significant impact on the fiscal matters of this state.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
