Program Auditor I

This is the entry-level of professional program auditor work. Work involves performing desk and field audits to ascertain facts regarding agency programs. Incumbents prepare reports of activities, maintain accurate records of findings, and testify in court or administrative hearings as necessary. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and the general public.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of experience.

Program Auditor II

This is second-level professional program audit work. Work involves performing moderately complex desk and field audits to ascertain facts regarding agency programs. Incumbents prepare reports of activities, maintain accurate records of findings, and testify in court or administrative hearings as necessary. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and the general public. Incumbents are required to exercise independent judgment, manage multiple on- going investigations, and demonstrate strong time-management skills. Incumbents use expertise to train new auditors in desk and field investigations. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and medical professionals. This position requires the utilization of intuition, logic, analytical ability, technical knowledge, and both written and oral communication skills. This position is responsible for applying auditing, coding, and social science research methods to evaluate and identify any suspicious billing practices.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1-4 years of experience.

Program Auditor III

This is third-level professional program audit work.  Work involves performing considerably complex desk and field audits to ascertain facts regarding agency programs. Incumbents prepare reports of activities, maintain accurate records of findings, and testify in court or administrative hearings as necessary. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and the general public. Incumbents are required to exercise considerable independent judgment, manage multiple on-going investigations, and demonstrate strong time-management skills. Incumbents use expertise to train new auditors in desk and field investigations. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and medical professionals. This position requires the utilization of intuition, logic, analytical ability, technical knowledge, and both written and oral communication skills. Program Auditor Team Leader

This is the first-level of supervisory program Audit work. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for conducting and reporting audits and investigations of state and local government programs. Employees complete complex audits and investigations; and coordinate and supervise the activities of staff that audits providers and beneficiaries. The incumbent is accountable for applying accepted audit procedures, coding, and other auditing areas of knowledge to evaluate and identify suspicious billing practices. The incumbent provides supervision of professional-level Performance Auditors.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of experience.

Program Auditor Supervisor

This position is the senior-level of managing program auditor work. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for planning, conducting, and reporting audits and investigations of state and local government programs; thus the incumbent has developed a high level of both technical competence and supervisory proficiency. They serve as auditors in charge of complex and technically demanding audits and investigations. The incumbent coordinates and supervises the activities of the staff that audit providers and beneficiaries. The incumbent is responsible for applying accepted audit procedures, coding, and other auditing areas of knowledge for the purpose of evaluating and identifying any suspicious billing practices. The incumbent provides supervision of professional level Performance Auditors.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7-8 years of experience.
