Environmental Engineer-in-Training
First-level engineering position accountable for routine professional and technical environmental engineering work involving the implementation of federal, regional and statewide programs for the control of drinking water, air and water pollution, hazardous waste, solid waste, or other environmental activities. Work at this level involves contact with federal, state, county and municipal officials, consulting engineers, industrial officials, developers, water and sanitary system operators, and the general public. The work is performed under close supervision from a licensed environmental engineer of a higher classification.
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, preferably with courses in environmental engineering and possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Environmental Engineer I
Second-level engineering position accountable for professional and technical environmental engineering work involving the implementation of federal, regional and statewide programs for the control of drinking water, air and water pollution or other environmental activities. Jobs at this level are usually responsible for implementation of programs in a geographical area of the state or a functional area such as functional area of expertise.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and 0-3 years of engineering experience.

Environmental Engineer II
Third-level seasoned engineering position accountable for administrative, professional and technical environmental engineering and related work involving the implementation of federal, regional and statewide programs for the control of drinking water, air and water pollution, or other environmental activities. Jobs at this level are usually responsible for administering activities in a major, technical engineering branch of a division and participate in the policy determinations of the division or department. Work at this level involves frequent contacts requiring considerable tact and judgement with federal, state, county and municipal officials, consulting engineers, industrial officials, developers, water and sanitary system operators and the general public. Serves as a lead worker and mentors lower level employees. May mentor Engineers in Training.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and 3+ years of engineering experience.

Environmental Engineer Team Lead
Supervisory-level position accountable for administrative and technical work through the leadership of a team of individual contributors. This is typically the first level of supervision over professional individual contributor engineers, in which the focus is on supervision, resource management and the accountability for leadership of staff. Accountable for the results of the team’s work outcomes and integration, where relevant, with other teams. Plans and directs the work of the allocated resources of the team. Ensures the work of the team is performed in accordance with overall management objectives. Reviews and reports on work progress and outcomes. Acts as a technical resource to the team in relevant field of engineering discipline. Acts as project manager when designated for that role.

Environmental Engineer Supervisor
Managerial position accountable for planning, organizing, budgeting, allocating resources for moderate to complex projects and reviewing assigned engineering resources functions and staff. The primary focus of positions at this level is on the management of other managerial and supervisory staff. Incumbents at this level have managerial and technical accountability for the overall results of the assigned organizational units. Accountable for developing plans for the assigned organizational units and for delegating the achievements of objectives to the relevant teams. Identifies, allocates, reorganizes and provides necessary resources to achieve organizational objectives. Manages and engages in effective people management activities such as recruitment, training, development, and performance management.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, 7+ years of engineering experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.

Environmental Engineer Manager

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, 5+ years of experience in engineering as a registered Professional Engineer, and 3+ years of supervisory experience.
