Incumbents use expertise to train new auditors in desk and field investigations. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and medical professionals. This position requires the utilization of intuition, logic, analytical ability, technical knowledge, and both written and oral communication skills. This position is responsible for applying auditing, coding, and social science research methods to evaluate and identify any suspicious billing practices.

The incumbent is accountable for applying accepted audit procedures, coding, and other auditing areas of knowledge to evaluate and identify suspicious billing practices. The incumbent provides supervision of professional-level Performance Auditors.

They serve as auditors in charge of complex and technically demanding audits and investigations. The incumbent coordinates and supervises the activities of the staff that audit providers and beneficiaries. The incumbent is responsible for applying accepted audit procedures, coding, and other auditing areas of knowledge for the purpose of evaluating and identifying any suspicious billing practices. The incumbent provides supervision of professional level Performance Auditors.
