First-level Network and Communication position that typically works within the framework of established operating procedures and in close cooperation with internal and external network support providers to troubleshoot and maintain network and communication user devices and links. Typically focuses on network operations in a WAN/LAN environment, including both data and voice. Within approved standards, places orders for network equipment. Modifies configuration settings and components and installs network cabling and fiber. Implements basic firewalls and routers. Monitors routine network performance. Conducts simple analysis and documentation of configuration management. Prepares documentation for all actions taken. Implements back up configuration.
Typically requires Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience.

Network Infrastructure Specialist II
Second-level professional position accountable for applying and using experience in the field of network operations and administration and in close cooperation with internal and external network support providers to troubleshoot and maintain network and communication user devices and links of moderate complexity in assigned organizational areas. Focuses on the hardware and software aspects of network operations across multiple platforms of LAN and WAN configurations. Monitors use, capacity, and performance of network systems. Makes recommendations for changes and may implement agreed enhancements. Accountable for installation and implementation of new network and communication equipment or software as required. Maintains effective network security and back up. May provide technical leadership to first level staff. Acts with independence and may be accountable for significant portion of a large project or enhancement.

Third-level professional position accountable for more complex network operations and administration and is responsible for seeking solutions outside standardized operational norms and guidelines. Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining network and communication user devices of moderate complexity or moderate risk/impact in assigned organization area. Focuses on the hardware and software aspects of network operations across multiple platforms of LAN and WAN configurations. Monitors use, capacity and performance of network systems. Makes recommendations for changes and may implement agreed enhancements. May function as team lead or supervisor of lower-level positions.

Network Infrastructure Specialist IV
Fourth-level professional position accountable for the development of network architecture and design. Establishes network standards, platforms, protocols, and devices within the approved architecture. Designs complex networks and communications systems. Coordinates and oversees the planning, and installation of complex networks and communication systems. Conducts high level network performance tuning. Establishes statewide integration and continuity of connectivity. Coordinates the integration with external service providers. Researches developments in network and communication technology, proposes business changes and develops migration and implementation plans. Provides complex technical support in relevant field of discipline. May serve as project lead or provide supervision and technical direction to lower level team members. Mentors less experienced staff.

Network Infrastructure Specialist Team Lead
Supervisory/Managerial position accountable for overall design and performance of networks at the high end of complexity and high risk or impact for assigned organizational areas. Manages multiple teams of network administrators and operations staff. Accountable for portfolio management of multiple applications. May be accountable for team leaders and lower level of Network Infrastructure Managers. Interacts with stakeholders and high level business users. Manages vendor relations. Positions at this level are typically located in the central IT office.
